St Clair Advertising Program Revive a Phone Skype Call

What a great day for the program!

For those of you that are unaware of what happened (and for those of you thinking of taking the program next year), here is a quick recap.
In our mobile marketing class, we speak about mobile news, strategies, videos etc. One of the students showed the class this video – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4R0w0-W5-pU

After watching the video, many students in the class had questions about the video. Questions included:

  • What was their bounce rate?
  • How many sales did they have?
  • How much did they pay the people in line?

After we were done speaking about the different questions, another student said “Why don’t we contact them and ask?” So, we did! We fired up our trusted Twitter machine and tweeted at Revive a Phone (@reviveaphone).

They responded quickly to our Tweets. One thing lead to another and before we knew it, we had a Skype call setup with the company!

We scheduled the call for today with Jeff from Revive a Phone. Our 3rd students were in attendance along with many 1st and 2nd year students. Every 3rd year student had 1 or 2 questions prepared to ask Jeff.

The turnout was amazing. The Windsor Star (www.windsorstar.com) was in attendance and represented by reporter Dave Waddell (http://blogs.windsorstar.com/author/winstarwaddell), Ann Hetherington, the Director of Marketing for St. Clair College, the college newspaper, Lorna McCormack, Chair of the School of Media, Art & Design as well as journalism students from the MediaPlex. Along with faculty of the advertising program (past and present), it was a full house!

The students in attendance Tweeted live, posted pictures to Facebook as well as to Instagram. We even captured video from the event. Our students asked excellent questions. They were relevant, knowledgeable and insightful. They really displayed their knowledge of the topic at hand and demonstrated their digital advertising acumen.
The video call was amazing! Jeff graciously answered all of our questions, provided some input, insight and advice for our students. He also shared some memorable stories (such as losing their luggage in Australia). It was great to hear that the areas his business focused on the most just so happened to be courses our students are taking!

To cap off the day, AM800 radio conducted an interview with the programs coordinator Steve McEachern to discuss the program and the event! It was the perfect ending to an amazing day!
